FAQ

Short answers to common questions about Saelis and Sigils.

General

What is Saelis?

Saelis is an experimental metaprotocol for programmable onchain data, being developed on Kinetiq's Elysium. Its primitive is the Sigil: a structured, identifiable data record. Sigils can reference each other and compose into larger structures.

Is Saelis live?

No. The Elysium testnet is live, but Saelis itself has no deployed contracts, no indexer and no published SDK. The protocol is in the specification stage.

Is there a Saelis token?

These documents describe no Saelis token. ELC-20 is a proposed standard for fungible assets represented as Sigils. It is not a token, and no ELC-20 asset has official status.

How do I stay updated?

Follow @saelisxyz for updates. Changes to the protocol design are reflected in these docs as they are decided.

Sigils

Are Sigils NFTs?

Not necessarily. A Sigil is a data record. A standard could describe Sigils that behave like unique collectibles, but the base protocol makes no such assumption, and many Sigils will not be ownable or tradable at all.

Are Sigils inscriptions?

Sigils are inspired by inscriptions: data attached to transactions and interpreted by indexers. Saelis adds a defined structure, first-class references between records and pluggable standards. See What is Saelis?.

Is all Sigil content stored onchain?

The envelope and body are published in Elysium transaction data. Content referenced by a URI in metadata, such as an image hosted on IPFS, is stored offchain, and Saelis does not guarantee its availability. See Sigils.

Can a Sigil be edited or deleted?

No. A published Sigil is immutable. Changes are expressed by publishing new Sigils.

Can I create a Sigil today?

Not in a form that will be recognized. The transport is undecided and no indexer exists. You can experiment with the draft format on testnet, as described in Creating a Sigil.

Elysium

Which Elysium does Saelis use?

Kinetiq's Elysium, an Arbitrum Orbit Layer 2 that settles to HyperEVM. The testnet chain ID is 99801. It is unrelated to the network with chain ID 1338.

What is the gas token?

HYPE, Hyperliquid's native asset. It bridges 1:1 from HyperEVM as native gas.

Where do I get testnet HYPE?

From the Elysium testnet faucet, or by bridging from HyperEVM testnet.

What are the mainnet parameters?

They have not been published. Elysium mainnet is pre-launch. See Elysium Network.

Security

Has Saelis been audited?

No. There is no Saelis code to audit yet. Any future contracts or indexers will be documented with their audit status.

How do I recognize official Saelis resources?

Official channels are listed on the Links page. Never share a private key or seed phrase with anyone. Saelis will never ask you to connect a wallet or sign a message to read these docs.
